Hi,

I would like to buy my bloke a drill for his birthday as we are doing up the house. He wants one which isn't cordless (electric, i think that makes it?!) Am looking to spend about £60, is there a decent one available for this price, any advice on where to go for one?
Thanks very much
Helen

Try one of the B&Q warehouse stores, there is a large selection. If you can, find a member of staff over 12 to run through what the drills do etc.

I was going to suggest Screwfix but thought she would need to talk to someone about what she wanted.

I have never been into a builders merchant that comes close to the selection or prices that B&Q offer.

Considering he knows what he is getting and presumably the cost, why not take him to B&Q with you.

Sometimes power tools have to feel right too. He doesn't want a clumsy, heavy thing.

Must agree with fitter on prices, B&Q warehouses(not the others)are a lot better than most places for power tools.

Most B&Q tools (performance power) are made by NuTool and identical models can be found cheaper elsewhere.
Find out what features he would like.
Variable speed, hammer action, clutch control, reversible etc.
There aren't as many mains electric drills around now as cordless give greater flexibility and movement and there can be very few toolboxes without a cordless drill now.
My wife bought me a decent electric drill for our first Christmas (1966) and it's still in use although the bearings are a bit worn making it noisy in use. At that time all drills had a 1/4" chuck so mine with it's 5/16" chuck was the rolls royce of it's day. ;)
