Empip's post about the A380 incident has made me think.
Ok so that was a technical fault but in the light of explosive devices being discovered on planes recently why do you think we haven't had a further out burst from this man? --http://www.boingboing.net/2010/10/26/british-airways-chai.html

Fine do as he says but make sure either him or a family member is permantly kept on board a plane.

The word is balance. Security is one thing, taking the pi$$ is another.

Isn't there 2 issues here. One is internal security which any country can decide what's best to do and the other is international security. If our own international security was better the parcel from Yemen may never have got on the plane. The rant on here http://www.boingboing.net/2010/10/26/british-airways-chai.html could just be what the terrorist is waiting for.

Just heard the print cartridge was 17 mins. from going off.

What better than passenger profiling? Would upset the Liberal Guardianista's amongst us though.
Security checks at British Airports have gone too far. Now the government introduce a ban on passengers having printer toner cartridges in onboard items.
How many of us have flown on holiday with toner cartridges in our possession? I think I can safely say that anyone going on holiday won't have toner cartridges amongst their personal luggage.
WTF??. The government just go overboard with airline security.
What they should be doing is stopping any woman in a burkha, anyone of middle eastern asian origin with the regulation beard and stupid hat on. Ban all cargo/ freight and letters from the Yemen, Somalia and such countries., Ban totally all flights from Yemen, Somalia etc.
This small measure would stop the terrorists in their tracks. At least for the moment.

Agreed profiling may help but not in all cases , no silly hats here except the baseball kind http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgu...a=X&ei=6uvSTPL_BpDQjAfDqry6Dg&ved=0CB0Q9QEwAA

I feel people are either too dim or have such short memories that they think that because it's been a while since a terrorist attack on a plane that the terrorists have given up and we can relax and go back to the old ways. People are moaning because of a few checks that delay them at the airports but as soon as a plane is flown into a tower block it's suddenly the governments fault for not doing enough.
Isreal and Russia have even more stringent checks than us, now when was the last time an Isreali plane was hijacked, or blown out of the sky or flown into a building???

its got jack to do with towers

if something blows up on the ground you have a chance to take cover slim mabye
at 32,000 ft your fish food end of

i say tighten security and alter the flights to suit

Had they blown up 4 aircraft at 30,000 feet (out of sight) the news would have lasted months.

Flying aircraft into the twin towers ensured the publicity would last for many, many years. Terrorists need publicity, the more visual the better.

we need to keep the threat in perspective
we could reduce the survelance in half with maybe a 5 or 10 percent increase in deaths
if we spent the same amount on cancer road deaths alcohol/drugs treatment etc etc we would help far more people the deaths will be fewer and thousands off hours would be saved at airports in security time
several thousand people have been killed on the roads in the time since the twin towers iff you could save 10% off those lives with half the terroist budget that would be a much better use off funds

Toner cartridges in hand luggage have now been banned; so the terrorists see that, and go hmm...lets try socks next time?

A couple of unexploded bombs, provisionally attributed to a certain bomb maker, that made the device in the underpants, that also didn't go off...is it time to look for a new job mate?

Is it worse to have a bomb system that has bypassed all the security of being patted down, shoes taken off, belt removed, laptop swabbed, and that's just the cargo (!) NOT! ticking away on a plane ready to blow, OR

Just let RollsRoyce put a bomb onto the aircraft, defeat anti containment conditions, drop a load of plane onto a community, then manage to land on 3 engines, when they have had prior engine failure. The cowling should NOT have failed, the damage looks towards the rear of the turbine, although scorch marks are at the front, so does not look like a bird strike, but mechanical failure.

And the engines give live feedback to a control centre, so if the engine overheated or had a leak, it would have been picked up, before it failed.

Due to the fail, it looks to me to be 80/20, that people would survive, that big hole in the wing could easily have exploded the tanks in the wing.

A friend of mine designed the wings on that plane, seems he done gud.

Designed them? or worked at Broughton in North Wales where they where made?

Yup he worked there as a designer for the wings. Had a nice holiday across Europe with him.

The missus' dad works there, he was brought in from another company to lead the design team on the wings. He had a lot to do with the design of the A380 freighter wings, something to do with the wings needing a different structure and strength as the passenger model
