We employed 2 Polish workers last year.
First week, fine, they did things the way we showed them.
2nd week, they knew everything and did things the way they were used to doing them in Poland. One of them cost our branch over £7,500 in remedial work the second week which we couldn't pass on to the customer. He threatened our company with a tribunal for unfair dismissal!
Needless to say our boss is one who worked his way up from the shop floor as an apprentice and had the guts to tell him what to do with himself. Unlike our politicians who are scared of their own shadow in case it threatens to sue them.
Kick them out as soon as they land.
If they have qualifications then why don't they apply through the proper channels and if they are good enough and secure a job THEN let them come. But not with a family of 32 hanger-ons!

Are we really a democracy?
I don't remember voting for all the rules and regulations that have been brought in since the last election, which were not included in the manifesto.
I don't remember having any input into what we are expected to accept as religious (in)tolerance. There's nothing more dictatorial than religion.
I also don't remember voting for members of parliament to be allowed to cross the floor to a different political party.

Here's something that I always wondered - Jean Charles de Menezes (the Brazilian illegal immigrant who was shot by police on the tube shortly after the 7th of July bombings), media reports all say he was working as an electrician in London. This was long after Part P came into force, so how was he working as an electrician? Just seems a bit odd that someone would go to the effort of getting qualified but wouldn't fill out a form at the Home Office to prevent them getting deported.
I know it misses the bigger picture of that story but its a niggling detail that's always bothered me.

Well, it stops any old chap doing a bit of wiring without getting a "competent person" to come in and check it, hen send the paperwork off to the BCO with a nice cheque.
Legally, at least.
Who on earth would hire an illegal to do some illegal work to their house thus causing issues when they resell or if it burns to the ground?

Fortunately democracy is a very woolly term that covers many systems of government. It does in fact cover our system. The key issue is "are people allowed to vote?". Never mentions anything about acting on the result.
As far as I am aware democracy only discusses representation of the people, nothing about doing what the people want. Otherwise we'd have no taxes and every day would be "wear a bikini to work" day for every nubile lady.
I think that our system should be changed to one where a general election has to be held within a month of a PM standing down - i.e. the people vote for the PM, not for the party. Hint hint.
