Couple of reports on the news yesterday and the day before about this bloke who was released from prison after 17 years

Any compensation claim he is awarded May have board and lodging expenses for the prison service deducted from any award !!!

Apparently board and lodging expenses have been deducted from compensation settlements in the past

Talk about taking the p***

It certainly takes the biscuit

Just imagine the things youve done over the last 17 years....and then imagine having all those years spent in prison, probably 20 hours a day in a concrete cell

Yeah I saw something about this on the news yesterday, it's a clause (I think?) that stipulates if the 'bed & board' was of a higher standard than the prisoner might have been used to on the outside, the right to charge for boarding can be applied.

Regardless of the ins and outs, as you say it beggars belief!

I wonder what folk are entitled to for wrongful imprisonment, money wide I mean. I found this ...

Compensation pay-outs for miscarriages of justice are assessed on a case-by-case basis by an independent assessor and will consider a range of factors - including the savings made on living costs while in custody.

I can't believe they take 'savings made' into account! Folk should get minimum £250k per year wrongfully imprisoned.
