Arriva taken over

I see in the mews today that Arriva have been taken over by Deutsche Bahn, who operate trains in Germany. What I find totally surprising is that Deutsche Bahn is 100% owned by the German State.
Yet another insidious takeover of British companies by foreign interests.
Gordon Brown, please take note. Is there anything left in this country that isn't owned by foreign interests??

And just think what would have happened if they had won the war????

We're all doomed..................!

Andy

if the english wasn't so useless at running anything we could moan about it.

DB (Deutsche Bahn) Schenker took over EWS (English Welsh and Scottish) railway (the largest freight operator in the UK) a couple of years ago. ;)

Have DB taken over all of Arriva? Buses etc? Or just the train operation side?

They have taken over all of Arriva's business, buses and trains and so have become Europe's biggest travel operator.
Crikey makes you wonder who won the war (but don't mention the war)

Well I suppose that all the subsidy that the government pay to train/bus companies will now go to the German transport system and ours will wither on the vine or face massive increases in fares.
I can see no other reason for them taking it over, oh apart from the massive renumeration the ceo and board of directors of Arriva will get for brokering such a successful deal.

Cynical Moi, never.

There was nothing stopping a British company taking over Arriva Infidel.

We should have strict laws concerning business takeovers , like they do in Switzerland and Japan. Might stop foreign investment, but would ensure British companies stay British (till they go bust, anyway)

You get these ridiculous situations...

Vodafone (British company) bought up an ailing Orange (at the time a British company).

The EC forced the resale of Orange because it gave Vodafone too much power in the European telecoms market and they were worried about a monopoly. This grates on my capitalist sensibilities, but I can see their point.

Orange is now owned by France Telecom, who are a bigger telecoms player than Vodafone.

Examples of this sort of thing happening all over.

Can you imaging "British Gas" being allowed to run the French grid? Yet Energie Distribution France (aka EDF) are allowed to do it here.
