I think the tech may have moved on a bit in 50 years.

I’ve always liked the on demand model. Where you use an app to request a bus and the bus looks at how many people are going from a : b and dynamically routes a bus of the right size.

Avoids pointless stops or driving past a stop because the bus is full

Sure, but you'd have a job bundling that as a route.

It might work in outlying areas where buses are a rarity, but would not work for my every 15 minutes service. It would also make potentially make it more difficult, for people to plan their day, with buses turning up at odd times, running strange routes.

We do have an 'on demand' Access Bus service, here, for the disabled. You have to make the arrangement the day before, and it picks you up within a set, but variable time-frame, but takes everyone to the same destination - the supermarket. Then a set amount of time later, it picks them up, and returns them to home. My original partner used the service, whilst I was out at work.

Citizens should be allowed to protect themselves and their property from feral criminals.
I have a load of scaffold bars left over from a building job if anyone is interested.

I think they already can and do, but there's a thin line between a have a go hero and ending up seriously injured or dead when the feral criminal fails to say "it's a fair cop, guv". Mottie offers consultancy on scaffold poles.
