Went the Asda today with the other half........... under protest i must add.

Good job someone in your house can be bothered to do the shop on a normal basis, otherwise you'd have starved by now

If you resent it so much, buy a delivery pass and get them to bring the food to you; 26 quid we paid for ours and they come 52 times a year. I can't even get to my local supermarket and back on 50p worth of diesel, let alone waste two hours of my precious time doing that, the loading of the trolley, the bagging, paying, the lugging around and the dealing with the plethora of unwashed I'd find on the way..

I once made the till operator remove some loose tomatoes from my shopping because he coughed into his hand and used the same hand to push them along the conveyor belt. Yuk.

But you're fine with those loose tomatoes having passed through umpteen hands (which may have very recently wiped an arse and not been washed) right down the supply chain til they sat in an open box on the veg aisle for unknown number of Joe Publics to sneeze and snot all over them all the same..

..because you didn't see it

And you stood at the till in front of that worker who coughed all over your tomatoes, breathing in the cloud of viruses they and every other covid infested person around you emitted, the rest of your shopping being slid along a filthy conveyor; your immune system dealt with it all..

It's all about perspective, and what people choose to ignore or focus, and the mechanism that makes that choice is pretty irrational in some

I rarely use cash any more, why would anyone want to?

PayPal recently introduced a condition (which they have since rescinded) stating that it would fine (ie deduct from the account of) anyone whose political opinions it disagreed with, the sum of $2,500.

PayPal isn't a bank, but that is a prime example of the control a bank could have over you if it has control of all your money, and is the reason why cautious people want to keep cash.

Dare say that will be a thing of the past ?? As will charity collections on the street with there money tins ?

I have never given to charities collecting on the street, nor to individuals sitting in corners with a dog. It is just far too easy to be a fake collector.

Whilst everyone was getting things ordered online and delivered to their door, due to covid, I still insisted on always going to the shops, browsing and picking what I wanted off the shelves - I still do. You cannot beat browsing and picking out the best of what's there, especially so the fruit and veg. Order online, you get what you are given, what they want to get rid of.

For instance I buy milk in 2L bottles, I sometimes don't use it fast enough before it goes off, and I am quite sensitive to sour milk - so I always pick the bottles with the longest BB date.

I think Harry has me on ignore as he is not addressing the "social control" aspect of putting your entire wealth at the mercy of someone else.

Will somebody have a word with him please? Mention China, where this kind of control is (allegedly) actually happening.

Whether we like it or not, this is progress. The use of physical currency will continue to diminish, it's a transition. As with any transition, there will be winners and losers. Taking extremes, winners will be those that haven't used cash for years. Losers will be those that always use cash and for whatever reason, don't like the thought of using plastic or apps etc.

I can't put an estimate on it years wise, however at some point, no one in the UK will be buying anything with notes and coins. The transition has begun.
