Bad or late payers

I used to know a few like that; it was nothing to do with being unable or even unwilling to pay, it was a "point of honour" in their minds to pay less than the agreed price.
They used to brag about any "success" stories, which they seemed to think proved what smart cookies they were.
They did later puzzle about how hard it was to get anybody out to do anything for them......

(Come to think of it, they also took long haul holidays to areas that were desperately poor and came back boasting how good they were at haggling the local traders down from $2 to $1 or even 50c, completely oblivious to the fact that that $1 could make a difference to somebody eating or not eating).
There are some real a***holes in this world.

A Tradesman I know "Mark" had his roof reroofed the roofer "Chris" forgot to include the lead on his quote. Mark sat in the pub boasting to me how he refused to pay for the lead as it wasn't in the quote despite the roofer being upfront and honest about his mistake, Mark was so happy with himself...I asked him as a Tradesman himself where his moral compass was.

I reminded him that alot of Chris's friends wouldn't be happy to hear he had been screwed over or the person that screwed him over was boasting about it, you won't be feeling smart for much longer Mark.

The world is fully of Wally's

Chris should have gone round and taken the lead out.

I once repaired an oil boiler, customer didn,t pay so I went round when he was at work and put the garden hose into his oil tank, oil boilers just love water in the works.;)

Wait for it...
The usual suspects will be along soon shouting:

"PROVE IT!!!"

What???
You didn't video yourself doing such thing?!?!
How are you going to prove that this is true???

No dignity - Won't pay and won't care.

Dignity - Cares about humanity and doesn't sleep in peace without paying.

Simple.

The other breed are the ones that withhold payment for problems they have created, such as I fitted another kitchen the tall integrated fridge freezer was being reused from their previous kitchen but they had thrown the door fittings away, meanwhile I had plumbed the sink in but hadn't drilled the access holes to the hot and cold isolators, which was my next job on a Friday afternoon.

In roles the customer, and was supposed to have my money when he announced he would pay me when the fitting kit turns and I can complete the instal.

Oh alright mate yeh that's fine, I'll see you next Tuesday then "Bank Holiday". That evening stroppy customer, I ain't got no water? Yes that's right, you said you weren't paying until you had supplied the bits you lost so I can't complete and decided to do the sink on Tuesday when I return.

Play stupid games and all that.....

If you have a bad debt and it's over about £1500, then I can recommend https://cobrafinancial.co.uk/ as an alternative to a long drawn out court case. They have some interesting totally legal tactics, and seem to have an excellent recovery rate. One of the testimonials on their website is ours. Even if it costs a bit to recover monies owed, there is a huge amount of satisfaction in "sending the boys round"

If they charge in advance you'll be wasting even more money.
If they instead ask for a percentage of the money they recover, then it's fine.
Basically no recovery, no payment

They do charge in advance, but only take on cases they think they can recover, and have a very high success rate. My wife recovered a £4000 debt less a few hundred. A month later the company went bust, and a court case would have been useless.
