Basic Loft Conversion Advice

Ok. So I fit a stair instead of a ladder, reinforce the joists to building reg spec (6x2) for my span, fit a fire door.

What else would I need to do for it to be safe to use as an occasional bedroom?

The list is long and sometimes not so easy to achieve, we had to scrap our loft conversion plans as it would mean unacceptable (to us) changes to the ground floor to comply. The big one for us was a protected escape route from the loft to a ground floor exit.

I tried doing what you just said. This is my 1st attempt.

I soon realised that it would not work so did a proper job to building regs.

All my hard work ripped out.

What I did was go on gum tree and get prices for building warrant approval drawings. Think the cheapest was about £300 but used this to get the one most convincing to lower his price albeit £400. Take some pics of the roof,floor and outside and send them. A sketch plan downstairs is useful. My loft conversion is on projects under " DIY loft conversion aside the electrician"

It was done proper at under 6k.
