Basil ... BASIL!!!

Should have renamed it faulty bowels...

Funny how exiled xenophobes seem happy to top up their overseas accounts from 'treasure island'

Maybe it should have been left as we remember it. I loved "Bad Education", they have just rebooted that and it is ****ing awful now.

Some things are best left alone.

Was Bad education any good. I've never watched it until the new ones come out. It is awful.

The first 2 series were great, the third not as good, but still funny. I watched about 10 minutes of the first episode of the new series and turned off. The gay pupil Stephen was hilarious, but now he seems an over the top caricature.

Fawlty Towers was good but there were far better comedies in the 1970s. I never liked Monty Python, that was hugely overrated.

I thought John Cleese had been cancelled anyway?

Surely in todays woke society they cannot bring back Manuel?
That would be some type of "ist" and we cannot have that.. :)

off its time

Kenney evirat
Russ abbot show
monty python flying circuis

all off there time
funny as ferk at the time completely pointless and not in the least off interest now to me
will another generation find humour and interest, possibly and i hope they do but in general old acts trying to appeal to a generation perhaps 40 years on tend to come across as desperate and at best a bit ammusing as what your parents in a more simple time found ammusing :giggle:

Rising Damp, lol funny.

I 'do' agree, you have to wonder what a re-booted Fawlty Towers will look like in 2023. Part of me wonders if Basil will be semi-retired but living in the hotel, perhaps with a younger relative running it. One thing's for sure, his days of funny walks are well behind him!

Many comedy's of yesteryear are still funny today. I watched an episode of "Some Mother's do 'ave 'em" last night, I mentioned on the what you are watching thread about "On the Buses", both still hilarious, though maybe more through slapstick. Problem is, they wouldn't be able to make them today.

I always think the benchmark for if a film or comedy is quality is if you can watch it a number of times over the years/decades and still enjoy it. I can still laugh at Carry Ons, On The Buses, Steptoe, Likely Lads, NTNONews, etc, etc because they came from a golden era and there's little to better it from the last 20 years or more. Even been watching re-runs of Young Ones. Very clever and funny originally, still getting belly laughs now.
