Hello

The control box on my gas fire has packed in. I may be able to repair it as a last resort as a number of conductor tracks have corroded. I'd rather get a replacement if I could. Part number 245263 which has apparantly been replaced, according to Baxi. Would anybody have an idea of a suitable manufacturers recommended replacement?

Thanks in advance

Pete

replaced by what? if baxi are the manufacturer surely they would be best suited to advise you?

Thanks for stating the obvious nickso . I'm going to contact Baxi tomorrow anyway, however my reason for starting this thread was to enquire about a possible outlet for discontinued Baxi parts. I recently fitted a new fan to this fire and was told by the Baxi stockist that it was the last fan in the country (although there is one on Ebay at the moment!) Thus my enquiry about the control box. I noted on the Baxi parts list on their site that the control box has been replaced, by what part I don't know. Sorry if I wasn't clear in my initial post  . The Baxi Wentworth Deluxe is a discontinued model. Having trawled the web I noted that a lot of people were having failures with these fires and when I opened up the control box it was badly corroded.

Pete :)

I have replaced a control box to one of these fires recently, and itseemed to do the trick. However the initial lighting seems to be a bit hit and miss. But i think this is a bug with the control box itself.

Hiya Knuckles
Was it a superceded part (original part No 245263), from Baxi? How much?

Thanks Pete

Hi we have a problem with our Baxi Wentworth deluxe. Basically it will fire up but then cuts out after about 15 seconds or so. Any ideas what this could be? We have had a gas engineer out who looked puzzled and said it could be the thermocouple but wouldn't like to say for sure!
Thanks

Shaunovich

Make sure burner is clean (wash it out) burner injector clean .
if memory serves me right on one of the wentworths there is a pilot block with a slight adjustment on it to allow more gas through not very obvious though

Is it the fan flued model?
I had the same symtom with mine.
Let me know
Pete

Hi yes it's a fan flued one, the Baxi wentworth deluxe chrome.

According to the user guide the thermocouple part is manf ref 245245, which is no longer produced by Baxi. However just checked out the following thermocouple supplier which looks like a possible replacement:

http://www.keeptheheaton.com/acatalog/Baxi_Thermocouples.html

It works out about 20 quid with postage, but as i said not even sure this is what the problem is!?

Cheers
Shaun

It could be a number of problems. Does the fan stay on when the fire stops? If the main burner goes out after 20 seconds it may well be the thermocouple which is comparitevely cheap compared to the control box (£80), the fan control box (£120) and the fan (£75). Baxi discontinued these fires..I wonder why  The problem with mine was the fan control box when the fan would run, then shut down, then start again. The fire has since developed another fault which I suspect is the control box. I personally hate the thing but the wife wanted a flame effect. No flames at the moment  If your not qualified get a Gas Safe engineer to install any parts. Cheers Pete

thanks Pete not sure if the fan stays on or not but will check this - as you say hopefully only the thermocouple. Will let you know how i get on in the New Year!
Cheers

Hi just tried this - the fan seemed to stay on longer than the flames but did also then cut out. What do you reckon?!

Not any help to you but this is one appliance i would say just cut your loses and bin it, when not in use you have a big hole in the wall letting a draft in or heat out, thus making you turn fire on to get a heat.
A proper balanced flue fire would be the better option but are around the 500 quid mark , but that can be easily spent on repairing a wentworth

I couldn't agree more. It was a pig to install because I had to cut the wall, install a lintel and fire proof board the enclosure and to top it all there's a draught for your troubles coupled with the fact that the efficiency is so low. But the wife wanted that effect! The Wentworth was about £500 to buy new. Namsag, what model would you install? I'm talking conventional style.

The Valor inset balanced flues are a nice fire give off around 2.5kw. and should fit into your opening. The Baxi decadent is also a nice fire(nothing like the wentworth) should also fit into opening.
Flavel insets use a strange method of sealing the combustion chamber which is basically a flap ,which in a few years may start to leak fumes so i stay away from them.

£500 For a wentworth you must have been one of the few who paid full price we where getting them for around £150 when they off loaded them
