The script writer in Silent Witness this week right at the end of the programme wrote a little epigram.
The opposite of truth is not lies. It is chaos. Chaos because when it is difficult to discern truth from lies, everything becomes unreliable.
I would have used words like division, discord, confusion, but the sentiment is the same. Lies are dangerous to societal cohesion.
Social media should accept their responsibility.

There is a real difference between opinions and lies.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion. No-one is entitled to tell lies.
If lies are intentionally told, being fully aware that they are lies, then the perpetrator should be ostracised.
