Best National Anthem

I’ve not read the full words because only the first part/verse is ever sung and which is pretty unobjectionable. The point of the NA is to reflect and promote a sense of patriotism and positive national identity.
Maybe you should read all the words ;)

In full it is indeed objectionable on more than one front, and way out of date!

And who is this 'god' that is praised many times?
Has he arisen and 'saved us all'?

Verse two...

O Lord our God arise,
Scatter our enemies,
And make them fall!
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On Thee our hopes we fix,
God save us all!

Is that reflecting and promoting a national identity you concur with?

As for the best National anthem, La Marseillaise has to be up there...

The French had the right approach when it came to getting rid of their sponging/despotic royals!

You ought to.

And not inspiring or accomodating
The point of the NA is to reflect and promote a sense of patriotism and positive national identity.
Ours doesn't do that. You should be in a stadium in the USA when theirs is sung (even badly). Theirs achieves that aim .
Below is a woke alternative I have written, which excludes all reference to religion, respect, royalty and longevity of tne monarch
Nothing woke about not being inspired by the Royals, which is all the NA is.

A Frenchman went to the lavat'ry,
For to have a mighty ****,
He took his coat and trousers off,
So that he could revel in it.
But when he reached for the paper,
He found that someone had been there before,
"Ou est le papier?"
Ou est le papier?
Monsieur, monsieur, J'at fait manure.
Ou est le papier?

Apart from ours obviously. Just watching Casablanca, there's a scene with the French singing their national anthem in front of the Germans, and it made me think how rousing theirs is. But there are some that are just pretty shoite like the South American ones (written for dictators) and Italy (basically an opera).
Brilliant scene in the movie. I asked my youngest sprog to come and watch it. The French National Anthem is very distinctive. I get goose bumps watching it and never tire of the film Casablanca.

Billy Connolly reckoned the theme from the Archers would make a great replacement the National anthem.

I don't think I've ever seen so many as what the left would describe as 'flag shaggers'. and **** me, they're all lefties. How romantic.

Looks like I’ve upset 'someone' in this thread as my post has been removed. 'Someone' who criticises the use of an 'imaginary friend' in national anthems. I only asked his thoughts on using an 'imaginary friend' in the Icelandic national anthem. Perhaps it’s too sore a point? No doubt this post will be deleted too and I’ll be locked out of this thread. Petty.
