I’m confused by the variety of white emulsion paints I.e which do I go with.
Take for example Leyland paint. They have contract, retail, vinyl Matt, acrylic matt, super contract…….I could go on. The prices at the same outlet can vary from £1.50 to £3.50 a litre but the description of the paint is the same pretty well.
So irrespective of cost what would be the best to paint walls previously wallpapered and with not a perfect surface but okish. I have sanded the walls with a drywall sander and they seem smooth enough. It’s a refurb.
Thanks

If you have worked on the walls I always think a first coat , slightly thinned is the best approach

Then two on top of that , straight on

I would use ordinary matt as the base coat then 2 of your choice

I like soft sheen as a sort of hedge your bets finish

I think the so called wipeable , tough etc matt paints are mostly a poor imitation of a soft sheen paint that can usually be relied on to give a stronger finish that can be wiped without having to recoat the wall again

Thanks for that Fred. I can get Leyland Super latex at Stax….cheap as chips, but I am confused as which would be best for my refurb. Basically I want good cover from two coats

Super Latex is in many respects an inferior paint. It contains very little in way of latex. It is designed for plaster that has not completely dried. It is fine for ceilings because you seldom touch them. Walls are a different matter. If you paint a wall with the stuff, it will be impossible to keep it clean, and if you try to wash away scuffs, you will probably wipe the paint off.

It is often used by builders because it is cheap and it covers very well over new plaster. It can however create problems further down the line for the homeowner. The paint does little to reduce the level of suction. At some point in the future, someone may paint over it with full fat emulsion, not realising that they need to apply a mist coat over the Super Latex.
