My place charge something like £130 for unblock and CCTV. That includes rodding/jetting, finding the cause of the blockage, locating any faults then writing a report.

Writing the report is the worst bit.

That sounds very reasonable.

But even so I suspect there are many exclusions, roots, collapsed sections and inaccessible parts of the drains!

Don't think many in London would be that cheap.


Ages ago, before I got involved in plumbing and so did not have rods and a pressure jetter, I had to call out a firm urgently for a blocked launderette drain and the bill was nearly £300 about 22 years ago!

Had to get it done as the shop was closed.

Yes, that's pretty basic. Get it clear enough for the camera.

Any roots, collapse or other issues would be reported to the customer and then they would be quoted for any repairs required.

Hello folks,

Finally managed to find an old-fashioned style mop, but no luck with that approach..

Also I've checked the inspection chamber in the back garden. I'm no expert, but it looks pretty clear to me. Bit of water in the bottom but no visible blockage, no bad smell. There seem to be three ways for waste to get in - would they all be from our house?

I asked one neighbour whether he had any problems and he thought not.

Does this narrow it down? Seems to me that the problem is somewhere in the house.

Next I'll try the mop on the other two toilets (both upstairs).

Run the shower and watch the chamber. Same for the toilets. See what the pattern of water is through the chamber. If the water doesn't come from the flush in quick succession it must be in the house. You could be looking in an unrelated chamber though.

mike are wcs water level /s in the pan high ,after flushing , or very low .just to get an idea of how much water is getting away. if a reasonable amount is ,get someone to flush WC, while you are looking into the insp chamber. you will then establish which is the inlet pipe and the line that's problematic.

Andy and Ian H - unfortunately I'm in Norfolk. Bit of a hop from Hertfordshire, never mind Rochdale!

I know of a good firm down there, 'Norfolk 'n' Chance', they might be able to help

Actually that would indicate there would be another one somewhere, although sometimes it's buried under hard standing.
