He won’t be able to provide any real better options because Brexit was about tough choices: if you want a hard Brexit and divergence from our largest market, then damaging trade barriers and a border between GB and NI were inevitable.
And as for “great new opportunities for global trade” - they never existed.
David Davis came up with a classic oxymoron: “what we have is a remainers Brexit”

The majority of the house of commons and civil servants never wanted to leave.
Meant having to start working again instead of rubber stamping EU directives.
Tied to EU law on trading with other countries outside the EU that would always be the case.
The UK is still trading with Gazprom, despite sanctions on thier cheif executives.
And nobody has explained why a global network of trade and diplomacy is a bad thing.
