If we have taken back control by shaking off the shackles of the EU, why is my new black (not blue) passport bilingual with French?

But we've taken back control. Why are we cow-towing to the French? Looking for the Brexit bonus here fellas.French was introduced to replace Latin in 1778 as French was a language widely used in diplomacy.
Spoken like a true scoundrel until a war breaks out. They must think they are more important than the UK as they always ask for our help when under attack. Don’t see many war graves full of French this side of the channel.France is more important than the UK
Nice to see you're over the Norman Conquest, at least.Stop thinking in EU terms people!
France is our next door neighbour; the nearest country to us and a friend. Think of it as France rather than the EU. It makes sense to know the French language. French has been the main foreign language taught in British schools since long before the EU and yes, it is a nice language. We use many French words and expressions in our speech and it was ever thus. We should put the EU years behind us and think of the countries of Europe as individual nations.
