Brextremists under pressure.

So how would you characterise the abuse and thread locks I've had because people are simply ignorant of what ordinary words mean?
You've had abuse?
That's given me a right belly laugh. (y)

Or the criticism I've received for NOT assuming that people don't know what ordinary words mean?

Hang on...

I've got it somewhere....

Oh yes.

Here you are BAS, it's playing just for you.

:LOL::LOL: And :LOL:

Evidently notch is having trouble understanding words and their meanings as usual

Oh dear, do I have to explain it too you?

BAS posts what he thinks is a terribly clever way to call somebody thick. =smug

ason - don't forget that you are largely dealing here with people who regard having a normal vocabulary as a negative trait
Another example

Notch thinks smugness means not understanding, implying help is required to understand.
If notch's definition applies, I feel obliged to help him understand the true meaning of smugness
Well done -good example of smugness

You think (claim) that BAS doesn't understand the meaning of 'smug'.
Yet he is aware of the dictionary definition and is also aware of your inability to understand the true meaning of words because he warns that I become aware of it also.
Therefore your suggestion is obviously bizarre and counter-intuitive. Additionally, your claim to have to explain it to me, is woefully inadequate because you don't explain it. There is no mention in your post of what smug actually means. In fact, the only comment that comes anywhere near a definition is a suggestion of what someone else may think it means, even though that suggestion is obviously mistaken.
So, one can only assume that you don't know what it means because you are unable to provide a working definition.

Therefore your post is a series of sentences with no adequate purpose or reason.

Well done -good example of smugness
Assuming you might have a vague notion of what smug means, if I am feeling smug, what would it be that caused that feeling, i.e. what could have caused my feeling of "too pleased or satisfied about something I have achieved or something I know:"

Himmy is lording it over again and getting a little thrill.
Now which of us do you think is acting dominantly, or arrogantly?

lord it over
Domineer over, act arrogantly toward,

As for suggesting I gain some perverted sort of sexual satisfaction from posting, that is totally bizarre.
Almost as bizarre as insisting in having an opinion about what something isn't without being able to offer a working definition about what it is.

Me: Look at that bicycle.
Sodthisforfun: That's not a bicycle!
Me: It is a bicycle!
Sodthisforfun: It's not. You don't know what a bicycle is.
Me: So what is a bicycle?
Sodthosforfun: Grow up! Be an adult! Stop lording it over and getting a thrill!, but that isn't a bicycle.

Sodthosforfun: Grow up! Be an adult! Stop lording it over and getting a thrill!, but that isn't a bicycle. Grow up! Be an adult! Stop lording it over and getting a thrill!

Ad infinitum.

Such is the level of logic and intelligence applied by some.

Logic? You don't know the meaning of the word. Nor do you have the ability to read, and understand.

Here is another thing you're jumping to the wrong conclusions about. Where did Notch say that BAS didn't understand the meaning of smug? In your own words, please post it again, or 'reproduce' it.

You think (claim) that BAS doesn't understand the meaning of 'smug'.

So when you wrote this 'smug' and lording it over post about Notch, were you understanding the word 'irony' at all?
Evidently notch is having trouble understanding words and their meanings as usual.

Evidently, either notch doesn't understand the meaning, or he is saying that BAS doesn't understand the meaning.
Which explanation do you prefer?
Evidently? Where's the evidence then? Or are you making stuff up again?
You think (claim) that BAS doesn't understand the meaning of 'smug'.
And where did he claim this?

So how would you characterise the abuse and thread locks I've had because people are simply ignorant of what ordinary words mean?

You mean the phrase 'fellow traveller' that you love to quote.

You have been told it is not a phrase in common parlance in the UK. Indeed it is an American expression.

So not surprisingly, intelligent people understand the phrase to mean a slur on travellers. What is surprising is when a person on here who claims he is intelligent, can't grasp why he uses an expression not in use in this country.

Have you considered it may be you at fault (y)

Probably the real explanation: you totally misunderstood and now you look stuuupiddd :ROFLMAO:

You've had abuse?
Abuse.
There’s been several accusations and counter-accusations of abuse recently. So let’s look at that abuse.

Firstly, two probably irrefutable facts:

1. BAS and I have had abuse levelled at us recently for highlighting what we perceive as instances of racism.

2. BAS has levelled abuse at those perpetrators of what he (and I) perceives as racist abuse.

Now let’s look at the reasons for that abuse and the degree of acceptability of that abuse.

Reasons first:

1. The abuse levelled at BAS and I have been to try to prevent and restrict us from highlighting racist abuse.

2. BAS has levelled abuse at those perpetrators of racist abuse as a form of public rebuke.

Now let’s look at the degree of acceptability of that abuse.

1. Is it acceptable to publicly rebuke those who we perceive of seriously misbehaving in a public arena? Is it then acceptable for others to publicly rebuke those objecting to the serious misbehaviour? I would suggest it is not. I did use the examples before of miscreants throwing stones at emergency services attending an emergency situation. That is totally unacceptable. But it is a similar situation to those trying to prevent and restrict others from doing what they perceive as their public duty.
They can if they wish enter into a logical, adult and intelligent conversation about what is perceived as racism. But as soon as they resort to abuse, that logical, adult and intelligent conversation abruptly ends, and their argument is lost.

2. Is it acceptable to publicly rebuke others who insist on seriously misbehaving in public?
I don’t know BAS, but I suspect that he is the type of person who does not hesitate to publicly rebuke those he perceives as seriously misbehaving in public. It is perhaps a quality we could try to emulate, although it may have its risks.
Publicly rebuking and trying to shame those misbehaving is understandable. It is not a tactic that I would employ, but I would not attempt to prevent it from happening, and if anyone objects to it, especially by employing their own brand of abuse, I would not hesitate to rush to support those publicly rebuking the miscreants.

I could go further and explore the argument whether describing someone as racist is a form of abuse. But I suspect it is a foregone conclusion. Especially if it is likened to describing someone who espouses socialism as a socialist, or someone stealing as a thief, etc.

Perhaps another time, another post, another place.

Blimey, must've taken you ages, shame it's got no bearing on reality. And I must add, nice try to avoid answering this:
Evidently? Where's the evidence then? Or are you making stuff up again?

And where did he claim this?
Still waiting for the evidence.

So in order to maintain fairness and consistency, would you not agree that what you have said in that post would also apply to someone who used an expression/slur about indigenous Australians?
