Ok idea but I would not recommend doing this on green brickwork.You can always use a straight piece of batten wedged between the jambs, which catches the edge of the bricks and you can also mark the gauge on.
Quite right. I have done it when laying Staffs on a soldier. Sometimes better to strut 2 bits of 2x2's to the jambs to support the batten.Ok idea but I would not recommend doing this on green brickwork.
