As long as she's in good health I say fair play to her.

For reasons I don't feel the need to go into on this forum, I was brought up from the age of 8 months by my grandparents. Their average age is now 78, I'm 26. They have always been able to provide me with everything I've needed as parents, and still do today. I never suffered any discrimination from my peers at school for having older parents. In fact, I'm grateful that I was raised by a loving couple with plenty of life experience - I'm sure I had a better start in life than one of the many children brought into this world by teenage single mums.

nine bob, I feel quite ashamed now as I was going to agree that I think it is unfair of this couple to have a child so late.

Then I read your post.

I think the difference is, (my opinion only and open to change) that these were your grand parents bringing you up for whatever reason... they hadnt used artificial methods to conceive you themselves.

Perhaps your point does prove that it matters not, so long as the carers love and cherish and look after the child.
After all, age (regardless of whether that be young or old) certainly doesnt guarantee that a person will make a good parent.

Im just not sure about how far we should engineer nature and play god?

It is certainly an interesting debate and one that I thought I felt strongly against.... now Im not so sure.

thats not the way it is meant to be though is it

age related illnesses may strike anytime then the child is motherless

i know this may not happen but there is % more chance of it ps i was also brought up by my grandparents and loved them to bits for it

once mother nature has said u aint having kids we should stick to it or set an age limit 45 ?

would u be ok if the woman was 70 75 80

difficult.... where would be an acceptable cut off point? Im not sure but I certainly wouldnt feel comfortable with a seventy year old wanting to start a family.

Just on health issues... where would the line be drawn there? there are certainly younger people with illness and or severe disability who have children.

money seems to be a deciding factor though doesnt it.... you couldnt get artificial fertility methods here nor adoption (I dont think) as an 'older woman'.

Being rich seems to get you anything.

Either let mother nature take its course but setting an age limit at 45
I agree on where do you draw the line 70,80?
is the only problem the age? i cant see anything wrong with having older parents than having a mum of 14 or 15.

Very good point from 9bob .........but are they rich :?: or is it because they are from Sussex........strange old County ;) -reaches for banjo-

I can heartily agree with you there, 9.

I was brought up in London by my grandparents for a few years while my parents split up. Never did me any harm.
