Buying from ebay

Brunerman,
Yes, sorry to say that as MOTman highlighted you broke my rule #6.

You placed your bid at exactly £1,000

Others (and I guess in this case your sniper) would have added a bit of money to their bid to make sure not a round number -- in this case v annoyingly they only added 22p!!!!!

Unless I've had no access to the web I have only ever bid on something at the last possible second, proceed with my maximum bid plus say 28p or something. I find it quite exciting.

Lol. Yeah, even if I’m bidding on something relatively cheap, I can feel my heartbeat increasing as the time counts down. If I’m bidding for something for the wife, I’ve got her screaming in my ear “You’re going to lose it, you’re going to lose it”! Such fun!

What did you buy on ebay for a grand I'm 'diy'ing to know?
Sorry mate, didn't see your reply!
I'm looking for a vintage or classic single cylinder diesel dumper to use and restore - just as a toy really. One ton / 15 cwt or whatever.
Most of them have been kicked around horribly and go for significantly less than a grand. The one I saw was complete and cared for in its own way and was worth the going price.
John :)

Wish I had the space to collect tools that large haha.

Interesting to see the prices they go for

For some items that might be worth the time, I will try and arrange a visit to inspect. But I will take the readies with me and if inclined , make an offer on the spot. It has worked on several occasions.
It has also saved me bidding on a pup (with all the palaver involved if a winner) or having to make a detailed inspection on collection.

When you do lose an auction and you are the second highest bidder, don't forget to contact the seller and assure them you are interested in second chance.

I recently drove to Leeds to inspect another machine, listed on Gumtree as in very good condition.
When I got there, it wouldn't start, and the guy said 'you sometimes have to hold it in gear' Great. A 250 mile round trip wasted!
I have contacted the owner of the 'good 'un' to give me another shot if the transaction with the winner fails.
Regards
John:)
