Gentlemen--with all due respect to any of you who are with BG, please do not take offence at my rant.
Ok, fine, I am not an expert, neither have I any experience of heating systems, but I am not TOTALLY thick and by that I mean as an ex-electronics engineer with 25 years in my particular trade, I DO have SOME knack of being able to understand , as it were, the mechanics of any system that is put before me.
In answer to ollski--the problem is not that the BG engineer identified sludging--the problem is what he told me..."even powerflushing will not clear your system, mate........try that and your boiler will blow up and land in your dining room.......i flushed a customers system not long ago for £700 and it made no difference.....what you need is a new boiler and a complete new system really.......".
All along, the BG guy was on the hard sell, whereas I had the system checked out by an independent Corgi gas fitter, who pronounced it perfect, if a bit old.
And look at the preposterous costing he came up with!!! As I said, I checked my local B&Q and the most expensive boilerr they had was around £800--so BG was going to charge me £3500 minus £800=£2700 for replacing the boiler ?????? Now that is verging on the ridiculous!
As for Grundfos pumps, of course they still make them, contrary to what the BG guy said--I saw some in B&Q again for around £70!!
This what I do not like--being taken for a ride by the people whom you ahve paid around £350 a year for several years to take care of your system.
As you say, the vast majority of BG guys are probably kosher, but there is a hardcore who are only out there to rip people off, for the benefit of BG.
