C/H turns off

Right I've labled the boiler and roomstat cables

View media item 28297
label the cables (though I think if you look closely the room stat cable is already marked) and disconnect everything from the wiring centre
now using D_hailshams link start connecting everything back in a bit at a time

View media item 70
first connect the feed from the spur
the three port valve
the boiler
the pump
and the cylinder stat (red to 6/yellow to 7/black to 8 )
the cylinder stat connections I've given you are going off how its wired now if you take the cover off the stat and tell us the conections this can be confirmed
now connect the red only from the roomstat to terminal 4 and leave the other cores from the roomstat cable in view

now post a picture
did you get hold off a multi meter BTW?

Here it is so far.........................................

We haven't got a multimeter yet. Took a picture of the cyclinder stat as it has black red and yellow instead? Is the yellow just in place of the green?

Thanks

The only way the wire can change colour is if it connects to a different wire in an intermediate terminal strip/junction box. If the silver cable from the cylinder stat connects directly to the wiring centre, you must have your colours muddled.

Where's the meter?

sorry my mistake, yes yellow not green
disconnect all the wires leading to the programmer out of the wiring centre they're in the way! only have the items connected as per my previous post
then since you dont have a meter, take off the cover of the room stat
then post a pic of the stat showing connections and one of the wiring centre
also reg the room stat cable are they two black cores? or is one of the blacks
bare but covered with black sleeving?

Well just gonna pop to screw fix to get a meter as will be handy to have it then I will take a pic once removed.

Right finally got one but gonna start fresh in the morning so will upload the pics in the morning :)

Sorry Matt just read ur post bout the room stat bout it having 2 black cores it looks like the 2nd one on both sides the stat and the ones in the block have black sleeves on them.

This is all the wires connected apart from 2 from the room stat and the programmer.

This is the room stat with the cover off.

We're getting there. ;)

We now have to decide which black goes to terminal 2 and which to terminal 5. It's easy with a meter.

Set you newly acquired meter to the highest resistance (Ohms/Ω) range.
Connect one probe to one black wire and the other probe to the other black wire.
Now turn the meter down until you get a reading (e.g 200 ohms)
Make a note of the reading
Now turn the stat to max
Connect meter to red and one black.
If it now reads the same value, that black is the anticipator connection and should be put into terminal 2 in the wiring centre, the other black goes to terminal 5 (white).

If the red/black reads much lower (almost 0Ω), that black goes to terminal 5 (white) and the other black goes to terminal 2.

PS The bare earth wire to terminal 3 needs some green/yellow sleeving.

after you have followed the above and sorted the roomstat you can then connect the programmer
leave the links in place and connect the left hand flex into the wiring centre L,N,E (1,2,3,)
now you need another 3 cores from the programmer to the wiring centre its up to you how you achieve this but if you are going to use the exsisting flex then make sure you sleeve or tape both the earth and the blue (which is cut off at the moment) with preferably brown, grey or black tape
then connect

programmer wiring centre
terminal 1>>>>>terminal 6
terminal 3>>>>>terminal 7
terminal 4>>>>>terminal 4

as mentioned you also need some earth sleeving on the bare cpc on the boiler cable, then you're done.
now before you put the wiring centre cover on, see if it all works

Matt

Right to do this im guessing I have to have the power on?

Now just to make sure I set the meter right which one will be the highest?

SDC12287.jpg

No!! power off you are measuring resistance
use the ohms scale located at the 6 to 9 oclock positions on your meter

at 200k ohms the 2 blacks give a reading of about 180, but when we connect to either black and the red there is no reading what-so-ever!
