Now I have a rough idea of cost and at least two ways of going about it !

So now when I ring for the quote at least I am not going to get a massive suprise

Because you know perfectly well people are scared into asking advice, saying 'I'm not doing it, but want to know'.

Even if that were true, it doesn't explain what was unfriendly about my post.

The OP said he wasn't doing it himself, so it seemed reasonable to wonder why he was so keen to find out what the cable cost would be from people who could not see the job, when ATEOTD it would have to be the cable chosen by the person actually doing it.
