Calm before the storm

I like your confidence, I wish I could share it.

It's the survival instinct! We're not going to just crawl into a hole and die because the government is telling us frightening things, are we?

We all want to have fun, we all want to enjoy the summer, we all want to work and spend; all those wants haven't gone away - they are pent-up. Things will resume and business will be as usual.

I see, so you applaud poverty in this country because it isnt as bad as India.

you have a real problem, dont you

Notch, according to you, crime is caused by poverty, in which case those poverty-stricken folks in India should be stealing, robbing, burgling, mugging, drug-taking, raping and murdering. Why aren't they?

Explain yourself (and no apogogical stuff please).

No, Ellal's just given an idea or a theory. I was asking for an actual working example of a country with a political system that runs to his approval. Only answer he can give is 'tedious picking' and I've never heard of a country called that.
Obviously, I can't answer for Ellal, but I can deduce form his answers that he'd be happy with any government that has PR as it's method of electing representatives to the legislative council.

You could get picky and start into detail about which PR system is best. From my point of view any PR system is better than FPTP.

Exactly, If we know there is a meteorite heading to Earth, and is likely to hit, say London. Do we all rush to London to enjoy the fireworks? Or do we all do a pretty fast exodus from London?
It's survival, isn't it?

One of the safest places I've been to. Along with Thailand and Indonesia. All have high poverty and low crime. It does happen but nothing like any city in England.

It does happen but nothing like any city in England.

They hold steadfast to their faiths and promote their faiths.
And community spirits revolve around their faiths. Mutual respect, love thy neighbour etc.
The opposite is happening in england and many parts of the uk.
And drugs have taken over.
A neighbour of mine took his own life a few weeks ago. Think he was about 29 years old.
He was big in to dogs and big in to drugs.
Smothered his litter of pups in some kind of frenzy, then killed himself is what I heard.

What makes America different

It is nowhere near as remote as Australia. And, it has land borders with neighbouring nations, some of whom have people desperate to go there.

Don't get you. Why not Australia possibly the most cosmopolitan country in the world or Canada who's not far behind.

I have no time to Google for facts but I believe Toronto has the biggest Jamaican population outside of Jamaica... Whilst Melbourne has the biggest Greek population outside of Athens.

Really? Just having a diverse mix of ethnicities does not necessarily make anywhere "cosmopolitan". Where, for instance, is Australia a pioneer or leader in anything that one would consider "cultural"?

Edited to correct USA to Australia (italicised)

As I intimated, mottie wouldn't/doesn't want to understand any answer I give either through pig ignorance or simply dismissing anything someone who he has taken a dislike to says!

PR is of course better than FPTP, although some forms of PR are better than others.

But the two examples that were given (Norway and NZ) have PR, and have done far better than the UK. As have other countries with a similar electoral system.

Having to compromise and tone down radical ideologies tends to lead to better/quicker decision making, although there are a few exceptions.

Reported overall crime in those places is only marginally better than the UK.

Of course most crimes don't get reported in asia, and when you look at the rates of murder/rape/terrorism then 'safest' is a relative concept ;)
