Can I replace this switch with regular socket?

Another possibility is was an old night storage heater point. If so, some work would need to be done at the consumer unit end. But this is assuming you had NS heaters at some time. If you did the outlet would only work at curtain times in a 24 hour period.
I have no ideas but there's no other switches like this in the house.

Oh and also it's 13a not 20a!

P
Is it near a fireplace, or similar?

Might it have one time, supplied wall lights?
Possibly lights. The fireplaces in the house have all been removed blocked up, but these were on the other side of the room/house. I suppose someone could have put a gas fireplace in but this would have made sense on the other wall where the fireplaces were! I suppose if the wires work and it's a 13a I can replace it. It also didn't light up only at night so assume it's not a storage heater switch!

Sorry, but you dont put 0.5 , 0.7 1.0 or 1.5kw storage heaters on a 20 amp switch. You fuse them down with a fused spur fitted with a 5 to 13amp fuse.
Good job I'm not installing any storage heaters then!

It lights up with a fuse so I'll just change it for a regular socket. Thanks all for your comments
