car seats

I saw mr Ladynman on breakfast tv and the law appeared very confusing..... and it was not clear cut what you could do and what you couldnt...

however, what I found quite sad was the way that people seemed only bothered about the cost to their wallet.... not to the safety of their children.

I have three children and had to check about where I stand legally with the changes.

However, in choosing to have 3 children and wishing to use a car, we bought a second hand Volvo which was the only one we could get to fit 3 car seats in a row across the back.(years ago)

we cant fit three seats in my Skoda unless one is in the front. It is annoying and I think that child seats should be subsidised and made far cheaper!!!!!!!

however, I have said this before but people should see that cars are potential killing machines.
Some parents still allow kids to stand up between front seats, or put kids on their knee in the front and back.
They dont mean to endanger the kids but they are....

having seen the aftermath of children not being restrained properly in cars..... I would urge all parents..to make sure that when their child is being carried in a c ar... make sure they are safe.

Dont wait until its too late...

This is the reason we got a 4x4 in that with most cars you cannot fit 3 baby, child or booster seats in them. I couldn't bear the thought of an MPV.
Rather kill other road users than appear to be what you are, i.e. a parent, eh?

Shame you don't extend concern to the safety of other road users like you do to the safety of your own kids.
I do agree somewhat, but i think this could have been put more eloquently. I like that word

There are some very nice MPVs out there these days. The new Zafira is a very nice car, I've seen a few "done up", with the front badge removed and aluminium trim etc, it looks rather sporty! And the handbrake has a handle on it, rather than just a stick with a button on the end! And I bet its more efficient than a 4x4, AND it is less likely to kill anyone in the event of a collision.

BAS, well possibly, but as you don't know where I live, and what my circumstances are, a little bit presumptous. As Gary_M was slagged off for making what were perceived as unthinking remarks recently, I would politely point you to here to aid you in perhaps a slightly more informed and balanced view.

For the record, however, I live in a very rural setting with very few pedestrians, lots of farms, and I even take it off road, admittedly only recently and for pleasure purposes only. :D

Furthermore as we live in a supposedly free country I am allowed not to like MPV's. Why single out 4x4's you could just as easily hang a reckless tag on people who buy high powered 2 seat sports cars. I'm suprised that so many people jump on an ill informed populist bandwagon.

Quote from NCAP

21. Can results be compared between different categories of cars?
No. Results should only be compared within the same group. The frontal testing method mirrors a crash between two similar sized cars. The Euro NCAP tests cannot be used to predict the outcome of such crashes between cars of different heights and masses.

whats an MPV?

Multi Purpose vehicle, basically a standard car chassis with a larger bodyshell on it. Minivan in the USA (usually about as interesting to own as 'flu) Have about the same handling as an American sports car ;)

I got loads of baler twine if you won't some.
Do you use it for holding your trousers up? :D
don't you ?
Does it come with a designer label?

Does it really need too,I would of thought the quality speaks for its self, looks the biz with 2 bits around your ankles as well

Sorry, off topic but I once went to do a job on a farm in Cornwall and the farmer came out of the cowshed to meet me, wearing a much-worn 3-piece suit dating back to the 1960's, with the trousers held up with baling twine. And on another farm where the farmer used to carry an old collapsible brass telescope in his coat pocket so he could spy on his farmhand driving the tractor in a distant field to see if he was ploughing straight!

Guess it's £30 quid/kid. IE one fine for each transgression..

We have 3 boys and only 2 car seats will fit on back seat, so eldest has to go without. According to new rules, this is acceptable. He wears an adult belt, of course.

This is the reason we got a 4x4 in that with most cars you cannot fit 3 baby, child or booster seats in them. I couldn't bear the thought of an MPV.

Funnily enough I am in exactly the same boat as you (as I think we discussed before) with the exception that I went for the MPV (Renault Grand Scenic) as I couldn't bear the thought of a 4x4, but diff'rent strokes and all that.

It is actually very difficult to have three kids these day - almost everything, including 'family deals' are built around a 2+2 family, with the implication being that everyone with three kids is some sort of freak who should be assigned their own social worker immediately, but having to try and cram three plastic coccoons in the back of a normal car before tou can leave the driveway is nigh on impossible.
