ONS has a full list of households against which to check off all completed online forms.
And if no reply is sent in, then what?

What about people who don't have internet access/can't use the internet?

Send round the 'heavies'?

That's going to be a bit of a problem with the current lock down decrees!

The pamphlet issued to all households offer an option to complete a paper form.
Census staff will also visit communal residences like student accommodation, care homes, prisons etc to ensure everyone is included.
Even agencies who manage the homeless are approached to ensure even those who live on the streets are provided assistance to complete a questionnaire.

After a period of time, a list of those who have refused to complete the questionnaire are passed to an enforcement team. They make further contact and have the final decision on whether to make formal charges as refusal is a criminal offence.

After the 2011 census apparently only 120 people were convicted of refusal to complete the interrogation form, and many of those convictions were overturned on appeal...

And apparently all those who were originally convicted admitted they didn't complete the interrogation form rather than simply say they had no information to give ;)

One also has to question why contracts to collate/extract personal details have been 'awarded' to private companies...

Which means anonymity and a 'hundred year rule' is a crock of s hit!

You can phone the 0800 for help, or to request a paper form. Even if you are illiterate, blind or etc. I dare say they can have someone visit and fill in the form for you.

Census staff can assist anyone who has difficulty in completing the questionnaire.

ISTR You have to post the form back but there is no guarantee that it gets there and no proof that you did not.

It’s complex if you are a family with people who work. Each person has to be related to each other person and each persons job has to be entered and work address added.

it asks valueless questions.
Gender, marital status, education level, work, religion. I did ours on the mobile and it was clunky. It asks you to describe your role.

You get a letter with a number on it and a web address. You go to the website and enter the number. A bit like road tax.

Its difficult to see how much it actually costs, but numbers between 400M and 600M seem to be around. That’s a lot of money

Apart from almost writing Jedi under religion, but then deciding not to be one of those people, it was all very easy and straightforward.
