Hi all,

Has anyone got any experience with cheap chainsaw mills like this?

I only need to make a few cuts, but the timber has not flat surface to use a rail saw or band saw....

Thanks for any input...

I've no experience with such a device, and it could work well enough on a log that was completely uniform and parallel - which rarely is the case!
Personally I'd head for a wood yard and ask them to do the work for you......much safer!

It would do if you ran it through a band saw.

I guess you might want to get into chainsaw carving first, and use the saw to take the high spots off the log, then when you've made a flat suitable to run that guide along, use it

You make the first cut along a guide to create a flat surface. Often an aluminium ladder fixed to the log. I have been considering something similar. Chatted to someone who used one on the timbers in his extension. He made some nice pieces that would've cost a fortune from the wood yard.

Thanks all. I've tracked down a local guy who has got a more heavyweight version... Glad I did - he reckons my little chainsaw wouldnt manage...
