If it's commercial then surface conduit or trunking can be run and can be jointed at 2 x 45deg angles to bridge in front of and not even touch the cornicing. In some settings low voltage transformers mounted on the walls, and spotlights on wire suspension, might be appropriate. Or use track lighting and connect the track across the cornice to the wall in flexi-conduit.
