Cliff Richard will lose royalties

Research has shown that men still masturbate as part of a fantasy.

My GF is very demanding and sex is great - but I still do it regularly.

Why pretend I don't? Am I supposed to feel ashamed or something? Every GF I have ever had does it too.

Stop trying to put words into my mouth. I don't really care either way what happens to Cliff's royalties.

Stop making unjustified inferences. You made the statement "Laws are not always right" I asked you a question. Simple.

Why are you getting uptight? The answer to your question would be sometimes. For example some people choose to disregard the law which says they must go and fight in Iraq because they believe the law is wrong. Some pensioners go to prison for ignoring the law which says that they must pay a certain amount of Council Tax.

I was responding to softus saying that it is right to observe copyright for 50 years because it is the law. I was merely saying that just because something is law doesn't mean it is right. It used to be legal to keep slaves. Is that right?

If they can - they do. I can.

Well, bully for you!
Quite frankly, I really don't think that anyone here is intersted in whether you ma*******e or not.

The statement was ALL men do it.........my point is - not ALL of them do!

Don't worry about it Julie, some people hate to let a fact get in the way of a nice sweeping statement. :D

The topic seems to be going astray again!!!

I don't think Cliff Richards actually instigated this campaign, I seem to recall he is only backing it.

Apparently the 50 year limit in Europe is quite low when compared to some other countries. I seem to recall reading that it was around 70 years in the US.

We need to put a perspective on this though, in many cases the artists don't live for a further 50 years after the original recording anyway.

The main ones behind this are probably the record companies themselves, they make more after an artists death in many cases.

Only the other day I heard that Elvis(or whoever just bought the name, ;) ) makes more now than he did when alive.

Further to my comment, I was just reading a link on the BBC.

If tables had no value there would be no tables.
Even the most sh*tty table has a functional value, but we've been talking about monetary value hermes.

Music has value if people enjoy it, even if it is just a few lines on a sheet in your hand or a few notes in someones head.
And a CD has value when it's in its case, like a table has value even when you're not sitting at it.

However, the system that allows laws to be created and changed is right, so what do you do to change the laws that you think are wrong?

Again, this is not a moral dilemma. It's interesting that all of the analogies that are being drawn are highly emotive, e.g. war, slavery, Council Tax - do you really believe that the number of pennies from the sale of a CD, or the playing of a track in public, that end up in Cliff's hands is as important an issue to be Christian about as whether or not Tony Blair should be allowed to get away with the illegal decision to send professional killers to another country?

Jeesh

Does the music come into it or are we just talking balance sheets really?

I seem to recall Michael Jackson bought the Beatles music as an investment more than anything else.

Anyone any idea how much artists get each time a record is played? I was listening to the radio the other day and a certain artist was being interviewed when they played one of his records mid stream. His comment afterwards? thats another £30!! ;) I am not sure whether he was joking or not, hence my question about how much they get.

I think that's about right. I remember a similar thing a few years back and it was £20 then. Probably £30 is what it's at now.
