Hey guys,

Just had a gas engineer go round to one of my properties to carry out an annual CP12

Dude just went ahead and carry out a repair on a diverter valve saying it's faulty and charged 95. Comments were - motor cogs wearing and could cause boiler to stick on heating / hotwater mode if not repaired.

Personally I feel he just wanted to make a quick bit of pocket money.... Tenant did not complain about any issues and hot water was working on demand and heating is not even being used for the past few weeks so just wanted to know how you gas engineer would test this out? No question were asked to the tenant...

Thanks

It sounds like you’re the landlord. The engineer should have run it by you or your agent imo

When the diverter valve started to fail on ours you could hear a faint intermittent clicking noise but everything seemed to work ok. Guess it was happening when he was there but the tenant never heard it.

Also fella didn't need to pick up the part... Don't know if this would be van stocked
its a possibility he could hear it struggling . Its a common part that does go so yep he very well could keep one as van stock as for the 95 quid . The part is around 50 quid and takes 30 seconds to fit
