If you installed the CU yourself and LABC came out to inspect, test and certify then if circuits were not upto standard they would not give you a certificate until any remedial work was corrected. But whether they would charge for coming back again I don't know...

I had a new CU installed in June this year and although I could have gone the route of notifying the LABC and installing it myself, I don't have the relevant test equipment to complete the tests prior to swapping the CU. It wasn't much more £££ to have a spark come out and do the CU swap, inspect and test while changing it and self certify it. I would have also had to pull the main fuse so in the end I just got a spark to do the work.

But if I installed a CU and got it cert'd as well as the shower and general house electrics (assuming they would do that all the same time) that would only cost me 100 quidish in labour. Surely a spark would charge more than 100 quid to install a CU (+ say 75 quid for a CU)

He would, but he'd do a better job than you. Or you + LABC.

Remember, they will only "check" the notifiable work you've done - they won't look at the rest of the installation, they won't do a PIR and they won't give you any electrical certificates. And do check with them what their rules are on re-visits if they've asked for remedial work to be done.

If the house has a proper PIR and all that, plus isnt a ripoff price then I agree it would be easier. If it was just the shower swap (and already a decent CU) then I would just do it.

Its really comes down to the fact if
1)I want LABC to just come and inspect my work OR
2) I want a full PIR and CU install.

I could set the shower up all read to be connected at the CU.

Got to find a decent spark too. Is it self-cert'ed or something for part P ?

How much would the pro charge then? For all the hassle a few quid more would not put me off.
