So what tests did he do to show it had failed?
It works as in supplying electicity to all the lights and sockets. That is goodIt's all done and sorted now, so just happy it all works and is fixed
He had a spare mcb of 6a so he wired that into the spare slot in the board and it all worked, which pointed towards the faulty rcbo
That is, indeed, how it sounds.Erm, no... That points towards the rcbo doing what it's meant to do and now you've removed the safety device and left a fault on the system!

... although, given that the problem was 'cured' by replacing an RCBO with an MCB, goodness knows what, if anything, that means!!.... It was all safety tested with a certificate afterwards, so I know it's all good to the highest standard
Replacing an RCBO by an MCB does not test the RCBO or the circuit.If you recall what I actually wrote is that it was tested via a mcb to prove the the rcbo was faulty, when did I say that was the permanent fix? It was fixed by a replacement rcbo.
