Sooner or later we will be digging our own coal

No we won't - it'll be asylum seekers and illegal immigrants who do it.

Why should they...they get theirs for free!!

No-one native to this country will do it because it is 'beneath' them. (Pun not intended).

Not sure how you arrive at that conclusion.

Interesting point, would they or wouldn't they. Most of the coal is in places with a very strong industrial heritage and very high levels of unemployment. We are probably only talking about another 10-15 years before this becomes economically viable and it's politically desirable already to break our dependence on foreign energy. There might still be enough of a cultural tradition to get them back down there, it was always a macho job and human nature never changes

We need more alternative resources and research into them...Nestor, see they are mining oil-rich sands in Canada 24/7 huge industry...the new black goldrush!

More importantly non-fossil fuel developments - harnassing solar energy, water, windpower(i'm sure I alone could easily power a small car  ), hydrogen
(see http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/sci_tech/highlights/000926_hydrogen.shtml

If there's a will, there's a way.

Still not sure about nuclear as the toxic waste problems and potential Chernobyls/terrorist attacks, but if non-fossil fuels technolgies improved could not only benefit us, but for a price, the rest of the world with lower risks. It is happening, but people making too much money with present status quo to be too concerned with pushing it.

whats the matter with the rises i think its far enough for me,
