Nope. Still very, very commonly used in Scotland and Ireland for cupboards of varying sorts.

Hot press = airing cupboard is one example.

My meter is in an external in the building wall 'meter enclosure' that could easily be called a cupboard by many.

However, the question you were asked, and to which you replied "Yes" was about 'meters in cupboards', not any specific type of cupboard in any particular location.

Fair enough. I was careful enough to write "GB" rather than "UK", but it sounds as if I ought to have gone a little further and just written "England" :)

Quite so - and, as I said, only a very small minority of meters I have seen are not inside something that could be described as a 'cupboard#'!"
