I fancy a new crash helmet and I've been looking at the Shoei SYNCROTEC II

I don't know anything about Shoei as I've only ever worn Arai helmets.

Do any of you bikers wear Shoei helmets or know anything about them?

I've got an Arai-shaped head. If you have too, then you may find the Shoei doesn't give a really good fit.

Fit is the most important thing.

Got a Shoei Raid II. Decent ventilation, easy click-fastening chinstrap, excellent fit, lots of aftermarket visors to choose from and extremely quick to change visor. Love it.

Got a 1970`s Stadium  .......well it`s BS. and fibreglass so I paint it every so often

I had a Kenny Roberts KR2000 20yrs ago. Gave it a good whack on the front of a juggernaught[?] and lived to tell the tale! I'd recommend one to anyone :D

i was under the impresion that painting a crash helmet weakens it

and the trouble is you dont know how weak it is untill you have an accident

Nah, grown out of 2 wheels now!!!! Its in the loft to scare the grand children [if/when they arrive] one day. Funny, I was a bit of a mad one on bikes, member of M.A.G, didn't want helmet laws  . Then it saves my life, and guess wot, I changed my view on lids, unsurprisingly!

Big-all.... no that's polycarbonate lids. You only have to show them a paint brush and they vanish!

That's a top appraisal. I must admit when I was searching around I was very surprised by the amount of after market visors. Loads more than for Arai.

I'm going bite the bullet and try one. The only problem I have now is the colour I fancy only seems to be availible in the US

Cheers guys

I'm out of the biking scene now after flogging the zzr1100 a few years back. Still got the helmet though - tis a jet black Shark number that was the lightest available at the time. It's very comfy and fits my head well - it's not all arai amd shoei you know. As long as it's a top safety rated helmet the most important thing is the fit.

Agree the fit is very important but IMO there are loads of other factors once you've found one that fits. As you've pointed out weight is one, wind noise, drag, ventilation, misting, ease of getting it on and off etc.

I tried a helmet a little while ago (I can't remember the make) with an internal sun visor. It was crap. It fitted quite well but the drag when I turned my head was unreal. It was really noisy and the seal around the external visor let the rain in.
