Cutting a 45 angle on skirting

a finer saw will give a better cut.

why not jsut mark the longpoint on the bottom, short point at the top, square the longpoint up then just freehand cut
 
You could always take them to your timber yard if its near, they would make the mitre cuts for you only a very small charge per cut(some would do it for free)

But as has been previously mentioned ive fitte lots of skirting and never found a perfect 45 degree wall always have to slightly fill the mitre in.
