I've been meaning to apply for a DBS check for a long time.

More now than ever I think it's time to do to benefit my business. Has anyone else done this off their own back.

yes, but it was a while ago.

For some reason it was easier and quicker to apply in Scotland than in England. The same certificate can be used whichever nation you operate or live in. (you had better check if this is still true)

People wishing to become licensees of bars need to apply for one, and you may find guidance on your local council website under "DPS"

I have a few Google reviews, one says how at ease she felt when she called me out for an emergency in the early hours. She lived alone.

I can imagine lots of single women worry about calling a tradesman into their home.

I was living in England and had an address here.

Seems to be where the job is based initially, then home address.

For a basic disclosure for a job in England or Wales, apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service. Your employer may not accept a basic disclosure check if it's from the wrong service.

If you want a basic disclosure for personal reasons rather than work purposes, apply where you live – Disclosure Scotland (this service) if you live in Scotland, or the Disclosure and Barring Service if you live in England or Wales.

Yeah, I have one, I have to in my job as it’s a requirement for dealing with kids. Tip: Once you get it, sign up to the update service for £13 a year so that it is always current. It doesn’t actually expire but most referring agencies require that it is up to date.

I think I had to get my one done on myself as an employee of a company, through my own limited company! Not sure if individuals can just get one done although it may have changed.

Those of us who own Aston Martins have a weekend every year we meet up ... I need mine checked over for rust.

Very quick and simple to fill in and arrived within about 7 days I think.
