Dear Admin

I've got a hammer and a blowtorch, so I'm competent to do gas work. Can I come in to the CC now please :D

Let me make it clear..By implying that a lot of repeat work has happened implies, that the 1st fix didn't work.

No, it doesn't. Our gas engineer gets a lot of repeat business. Doing servicing. And removing the gas fire we were no longer able to use safely. And removing a radiator, and fitting a new one elsewhere. Oh, and fitting a new hob when we replaced the kitchen.

Our decorator gets a lot of repeat business. Doing other rooms. Same for the plasterer.

So when doing gas work, did you not address issues like a faulty gas fire, or removing a rad? I don't see how the reference to a decorator is useful.

It seems that you are completely incompetent, miss potential threats to life, and have to revisit, and charge more, to fix stuff, you initially missed?

Surely a competent person would initially identify those as a threat to human life, and address the issue? But you state you left....in a dangerous state...then returned, and charged extra, for your incompetence?

So you are a fool, incompetent, unable to do the work, and state, that you failed to carry out the work you were charged to do. Not a question, a statement.

You speak a lot in the 3rd person perspective....so did you carry out this illeagal work, or did you have minnions to perform the work? Seems like you are taking a duck?

The flue was not deemed faulty until a smoke test was performed while the fire was removed for other work. The rad was removed at a later time as the work progressed (it was not in the way and the heat was needed).

Uhm, I'm not the gas engineer. I employ him. Not all work is to be done at the same time, repeat business means going back to the same person for other jobs because you're satisfied with them.

There was no threat to human life to be identified..

But you state you left....in a dangerous state...then returned, and charged extra, for your incompetence?

I'm not the engineer, I'm the customer.

I also get a lot of 'repeat business' and it has nothing to do with not doing the job right the first time or getting it wrong, quite the opposite.

If the customer is pleased with our work then they keep our number and when they need some more gas / plumbing work doing they give us a call, and also pass our name and number onto other customers....hence 'repeat business', that is my and probably most other peoples idea of repeat business.

I also agree with your concept of 'Repeat Business'.
But you can't deny MM his concept. We all base our own individual concepts, of the world around us, by our own experiences.
If MM's experiences of repeat business is having to do the same task over and over again, because he can't get it right, then he's entitled to his version of 'Repeat Business'.

Of course not. When you have your tyre changed, they don't check the oil, the lights and the brakes; they just change the oil.
Would you be willing to pay me to survey every single gas appliance in your house, including a system content check for turbidity, corrosion and balancing when I repair your boiler?
You either have money to burn or lack of business sense. My money is on the latter. Labour voter by any chance?

Strange to respond in red.........simply making use of the existing facility, which, when used to reply within your quote, differentiates my contribution from your own Micky. Adds a little brightness to the page too dont you think?

Let me make it clear..By implying that a lot of repeat work has happened implies, that the 1st fix didn't work..........No Mickey, while I generally agree with everything you say, on this occasion, you've got it wrong, but I think you know that.

You state that you don't defend your practice, or peers...........no Micky! I said, and I quote: "I am not here in defence of the tradesmen you refer to". Perhaps you should re-read my reply.

but post in red writing........and I have explained why above.

and are quite aggressive in your post defending them..........my apologies, it was not my intention to be aggressive Micky.

So you are a liar also?..........if you think that I was being economical with the truth Micky, then that was my fault for not making myself clear. It certainly was not my intention to give a false impression. There are times however, when, like most people, I do resort to the occasional 'white lie'.

I have no idea what you are carping on about about food preparation........."No response to THAT thread has been answered in good taste, and leaves a bad taste in the mouths of consumers"..a poor attempt at humour on my part Micky.

I'd be wary of employing somebody that fitted a doughnut washer, to my cystern........ because either way a cystern is a figment of your imagination. It is called a cistern.........if you mean that it is spelt 'c-i-s-t-e-r-n' Micky, why do you spell it the other way yourself?

It seems like you are a doughnut..........ah, you've spotted the hole in my arguement Micky.

And don't know a spade from an arrow...............wondered why the string on my bow keeps breaking.

and then throw abuse elsewhere when you get it wrong..........Micky, I have never felt so ashamed in my whole life ;) ;) ;)

Micky, I really am glad that we agree and that you are on my side on this one. I would hate to be in the other camp!

"The key to a successful business is to persuade that customer to buy again, and again. That is what is meant by repeat business"(Business Studies Blog).

If it isn't already, the world would be in turmoil if we all put our own slant on the meanings of words or phrases. Surely, in the case in hand, it would be kinder and more beneficial to MM if the true meaning of'repeat business' was explained. Imagine the scenario whereby MM approaches a tradesman to get a job done but turns that tradesman down because he is told that the latter gets a lot of repeat business and then accepts the services of another who says that he never gets repeat business.

I entirely agree with you, on the bit about it being kinder, etc, as highlighted, it would be kinder, but, as you've probably gathered, MM is beyond help.
In the UK, free speech is a given right, (within reason). Surely, you wouldn't deny MM the freedom to form his own perception of the world around him. Or are you suggesting we must all share the same perceptions? 'Thought police' comes to mind.

Based on the witless dribble he constantly posts on here he would have us believe he's the only sensible person as he has judged everyone else to be morons, idiots and tools.

After all, how are diy'ers like us supposed to become competent to do gas if we can't read about how the pro's go about things?

That's the catch 22 on gas. You have to be competent to sit the exams, and you can't work on gas unless you're competent.
 No wonder Joe's got the hump.

Can you be competent enough to sit the exams but not actually want to?

1. As you've probably gathered, MM is beyond help.

2. In the UK, free speech is a given right, (within reason).

3. Surely, you wouldn't deny MM the freedom to form his own perception of the world around him.

4. are you suggesting we must all share the same perceptions? 'Thought police' comes to mind.

1. Not so! What I have gathered is that MM has to have a desire to be helped, before he can be. He really hasn't shown that desire so far.

2. I totally agree.

3. I cannot recall ever mentioning MM's perception of the world around him. Are you confusing me with another member perhaps?

4. If this is not an attempt by you to live up to your user name, then you really must be confusing my comments with those made by someone else.
