I was about to order 32mm deking from Buildbase, at what I think is a reasonable cost.
My wife then pointed out a Marketplace ad for “28mm Redwood” decking for approximately 75% of the price.
As it happens fe is “friends” with quite a few people I recognise, although that is obviously no guarantee of being genuine.

The questions are: On googling, it seems that 28mm is okay for domestic decks , my old was 32 - is there any reason not go use 28?

What, exactly, is “Redwood”? Again, A Google implied it is Pine. What is “regular” decking normally made from, and is Redwood in any way a Premium (or otherwise) product?

What is the maximum centres for the joists, and is C16 okay, domestically?

Thanks

I wouldn't buy decking from Marketplace from a mate of a mate of a mate, there is probably a bad reason it's so cheap.

If you a serious about quality I'd invite to to Google Jacksons Fencing, they are based in Kent but do distribute.

Redwood isn't fancy, it's just a name, Redwood/Whitewood both Softwoods, Redwood can be used externally and is Pine.

C24 is better than C16 for structural strength, the prices don't differ from the timber supplier I use but Buildbase may charge more for C24.

I wouldnt use the term maximum centres more minium centers and would stick to 400 centers for either 28mm or 32mm decking and whether it be C16 or C24.

The other aspect to consider is the joist sizing required for span you are creating!

28mm is fine as is softwood which will have been pressure treated. Is it new or reclaimed and can you vied it? I would want to be able to select decking or see a typical sample.
