This is only vaguely related, but does anyone remember as kids, getting free Optrose Rose Hip Syrup from the NHS.
I remember bottles of orange juice and malt or molasses. I was sent to collect them, from the local Post Office. I also remember Farley's rusks, I used to love them.
Yes, Mum had a choice of Optrose or orange juice. I used to go with her to the community centre, and she would be given about twenty bottles at a time. That might have been a month's supply. Or maybe three months.
Loved Farley's rusks. Very upset when we stopped having them!!
Edward Short (lab) in 1968, abolished free milk for over 11s, followed by Thatcher (con) for over 7s in 71Community Centre?
Ah, you remember the benefits of a Labour government.

Poster for the Welfare foods programme (which entitled all infants and expectant mothers to free milk, orange juice and cod liver oil)
Do you also remember who snatched the issue of free daily milk from schoolchildren?
I remember having rose hip syrup in the early 70s.
Dunno what brand.
Careful! What's the point of jam that isn't strawberry?
Ribena
Very bad for children's teeth.
I love raspberry J. but making it is a fiddly job to remove all those seeds so bearing that in mind i'd say Cherry J. is my currant fave. Recipes call for equal parts sugar-to-fruit but my sweet tooth must've fallen out over the years as i prefer to use half the amount of sugar. It gives room for the natural flavour of the fruit to taste.Careful!
That'll open up a fierce debate....
Think my fave jam is raspberry, but I love marmalade too.
