Evening all,

I'm looking to have mains smoke detectors hooked up at home at some point in the future, and as I'm having carpets fitted in two days time I decided to run a cable up to the loft in preparation - so I don't have to rip them up ;)

I've used a 1.5mm two core & earth cable and routed it in the existing conduit, along with the other cables, from the consumer unit to the loft.

(nothing is connected yet)

So...

Will a sparky be able to wire it up legally?

And is 1.5mm cable enough (pretty sure 13a is way more than a smoke alarm needs)?

Thank ye kindly

You need a twin and earth cable from the consumer unit to the first smoke detector, and then three core and earth cable from the first detector to each subsequent detector.

Assuming the cable was run in a prescribe safe zone then the actual route should be ok.

Excellent news 'twin and earth' is what I used.

Thanks a bunch :D

I think you need to re read RF Lightings post more carfully.

Twin and earth to FIRST SD

THREE core and Earth from there to the others

Sorry

I assumed that his T&E would be to his first SD!
