Do I really need a reroof? (Ed.)

I am in the process of getting solar quotes and bearing in mind the survey had said some pointing needed, some slipped tiles I need to sort that before I do solar after all do not want to have to take panels off later. Had a couple of quotes, one say fix pointing along the ridges, replace maybe 70 tiles and a couple of the capping tiles the other complete reroof required as tiles are delaminating.

both agree the flat roofs are knackered which I can see. Does it look like a total reroof needed if so might have to put the PV on hold for a while. Obviously the north roof looks more worn than the south and there'll be no panels on the north just the south and west.

I'm no expert but i would say no to complete roof needing to be replaced.

The tiles do look like the type and of the period, for those prone to delaminating, i.e. early machine made tiles with zero camber etc. First of all, is there evidence of spalling on the backs of the tiles and is there lots of flaky debris in the gutters?

The one quoting full replacement yes. The one who said maybe 70 tiles to replace is a general maintenance company. Both said the flat roof needed doing and I can see that.

I cannot get to all the gutters with my short ladder but maybe 70% and they are totally clear. Inside the loft so the back of the tiles looks fine to me
obviously a few gaps but no noticeable evidence of them flaking.

It will be the bottoms of the tiles that will show flaky delamination, i.e. not visible from inside.

invite a solar based company to quote where the roofing aspect is not there main business and that emphasis may reduce ??
