Does it hurt when the umbilical is cut?

they dig a hole in new zealand and plant a tree on top of them (or so we were told by one of our Anzac midwives)

Adam, how do you manage to sleep at night or get anything done with all the things you think about???

I saw a TV programme a few years ago where Hugh Fearnley-Wittingstall made various dishes from a placenta. The woman who had given birth invited her friends to partake of the food and they also planted a tree to celebrate the birth of the child. They even managed to get a vegetarian to eat some 'placenta pate' as "no animal had suffered in the production of the food".

This occurred to me today: your basic umbilical cord has 3 blood vessels, ****some jelly, and a sheath.****

So does anyone know the answer?
KY and a condom....well  they didn`t work very well 9 months before  A baby was born once with one hand clasped tight, and it was laughing as it emergrd....they carefully prised open it`s hand and it was holding a pill

My Biology teacher at school used to take great delight in telling us how he had planted each of his children's afterbirths under his prize winning rose bushes - hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I always thought he was odd LOL.

Even if there were nerves in the cord then I doubt if the baby would feel it as it is always clamped first & the mother wouldn't feel it as it is by that time, loose inside her anyway

I was born at home too, maybe we should start our own club "The born at homers"

after birth of first child,(premature) my mother in law landed with liver ( marks and spencers liver she pointed out) to up my iron levels after child birth so I could feed her sons child properlyu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( cow... are all mothers in law the sane???)
anyway... liver!!!!???????????
no way... not after having had baby!!!!
looked just like after birth etc, awful!

LMAO   Did you point her to the front door?

I haven't got a mother-in-law so I will never know whether they are all awful

My mate lets me share her mother-in-law (and her mother haha) as I lack one and she is ace. A complete loony and great fun :D

On the other hand you'd have no real need for a mother-in-law if you had a mother like mine...

I have to bribe my children to go and see her three times a year

Sorry to hear that Moz and to hear that you lost your little one.

I had my eldest in Germany and it was horrendous. I won't go into graphic details but 4 mths after he was born I eventually had a post natal with my Parents' family GP who was mortified at the bruising I still had.

Luckily, my son survived but I really think it was more luck than judgement & the fact that he was a 9lb 9oz bruiser. Certainly nothing to do with the skill of the 'medical team'.
