I had some guys do some carpentry work. Most has been very good. But this door frame has left me confused. It needed reducing down to fit but internally the hinges aren't mortised in frame. Is this OK? Also some big chunks cut out the sill that's alot of silicone ?

The hinges have been rebated into the door and frame, maybe check your vision.?

Lol thankyou fmt my thought also.

Anyway I've worked out what to do now. I'm going to mortise the hinges in myself and pull the frame back to the wall take up the 12mm chunks he cut out the bottom of the frame on the sill. Will take some pics of finished and repost. Will send to chippy to show it shoulda been done. I doubt he will give a sh.t ☹️

I'm not sure foxhole is wrong, but I couldn't say for certain he's right, looking at the blown up image of the left side of the hinge you can clearly see part of the door frame is flush with the lower edge of the hinge which would suggest at least part of it's rebated.

I wonder if the frames been butchered previously.

Sure a bit of the hinge is partly recessed but it's not fully rebated and the missing two holes also suggest a shoddy job but to leave 80% of the hinge on the surface suggests something else is going on, which I would expect a decent joiner to sort out prior to leaving that hash up. And the one on the right doesn't exactly look perfect either.

The frame has a full length rebate thru centre meaning only the lead edge needs a small rebate for hinge .

The hinges on the door are morticed, I think they may have been eased a bit near the knuckle of the hinge. On the frame, the frame is a bit odd it has raised section on the inner internal side so at this point it is rebated. I would of created an angled rebate to house the hinge fully into the frame, but being very careful not to cause binding.

The sill is just a cock up, and where is the flipper gasket seal around the frame....

It still should have had a packing sliver for the middle section of the hinge and the two other screws fitted, also as others say, not really fitted square on either side. the chippy should have turned up wearing a 10 gallon hat!

He probably is a fully qualified chippy......

He works serving cod in batter and rissoles in the evening!
