Drill bits, rawlplugs and screws.

Consider buying a few boxes of Fischer SX plug range......SX 6, SX 8 and so on - and chucking all the rest in the bin. With a corresponding drill bit, all you'll ever need.
John :)

Aha, the "clean sweep" approach. Which I do like! I'll Google them! Thanks.

Some of the beauties from my massive collection. Turns out some ARE attached to the extra bit of plastic with the hole in it but I never noticed the hole I just thought the plastic was to hold the plugs together - another DUH moment!

Turns out the yellow ones have 5mm written on the plastic. Before I throw them all away, would these not be good for hanging a picture on the wall John?

BTW anyone know what these are? Packet of three, sealed along with 3 plugs and 3 screws. No label, had them for at least 25 yrs.

The ones with a sort of arrowhead point are for plasterboard. Does your house have any?

Yes, two rooms are drywalled over the original exterior brick wall, plus I have one stud wall that I had built.

Having watched that video, all my blue plasterboard fixings are in the bin!

But I have kept half the red and half the yellow ones because I still think they could be useful for hanging a lightweight picture etc.

The plug and the screw have to penetrate the brick by at least an inch to be any good.

On a plastered wall, short ones won't reach.

In the bin.

Buy a hundred brown ones.

Ah, yes that makes perfect sense. In the bin with them!

I have just separated them all and I already have 200 brown ones! Plus another 100 beige ones that are exactly the same width at the mouth as the brown ones.

btw How do you find these videos on YouTube? Whenever I search for anything DIY on YT all I find is Americans and Australians and their terminology and methods are too different to be of any use to me.

Ahh the old jam jar (ice cream tub in this case) of pain. The correct advice has already been given, but just to echo. Bin and replace, trust me, you'll be saving yourself a heck of a lot of time in future. Final point consider keeping the correct drill bit(s) with the plugs, that way you know its the right one straight away.
