Driving in Europe

Better you mean surely? I was paid a bloody fortune for ESF work. :sneaky:

Depends on whether you have a conscience or not, I suppose! You seemed to be talking like it was a bad thing when you were making the same claim about the EU;)

Conscience can be changed depending on whether you’re on the receiving end or not. Ask any politician!

As this thread has popped up again, I see that we've managed to row-back from mandatory replacement of the CE mark with our very own UKCA mark last week! BEIS has recently announced that we now won't have to apply them until 01/01/23. Why? Well, because like the rest of Brexit, it was an ill thought-out calamity of pointless additional red tape. In order to get a UKCA mark, your product has to meet all the exact same standards and regulations as it would for a CE mark, but...

...you have to get the tests done by a lab that is a "notified body" for the UK instead of the EU. Becoming a "notified body" is a process the lab has to go through in order to satisfy the regulatory authorities (either in UK or the EU) that they are competent. Up until Brexit, we could use any lab in the EU or UK as long as it was a "notified body" for the EU, in order to apply the CE mark. Post Brexit, we can use any lab in the EU or UK as long as it is a "notified body" for the UK, in order to apply the UKCA mark. This means that even if our product hasn't changed and the regs and standards haven't changed, we need to go through the process all over again, but with a different lab...

Amusingly, though, what is starting to dawn on our illustrious government, is that there's a distinct lack of labs queuing-up to become "notified bodies" for the UK! Basically, it's just not worth their while jumping through a load of extra hoops for a market of 65 million, when they've got plenty of work certifying products for a market of 450 million, thank you very much! Not only that, many manufacturers of consumer goods are saying much the same thing. Basically, for the size of the UK market alone, unless their product sells in large enough numbers to make it worth their while in the UK, they just won't bother selling it here.

So this "generous" move by the government to give us an extra year to comply with the additional pointless red tape, is actually to save their arses, not ours!

And of course, when we DO finally have to comply, you can guess who will ultimately be picking up the tab for all these extra compliance costs...

All those who voted because they wanted all those extra costs plus the about 70% of the population who didnt say they wanted those extra costs...

A man was sitting by the fire, talking to his granddaughter.

"Granddad", she said, "whats Brexit?"

"Fetch me an empty bucket, and Ill show you".

The girl went off and returned with an empty tin pail.

Granddad stood up and picked up the full bucket of coal next to the fire, and lifted it to head height.

"This", he said, "is being in the EU".

He tipped the coal into the bucket on the floor.

"That is being out of the EU. Thats Brexit".

"But granddad," the girl said, "it looks just the same"

"Ah, yes," he said, "but listen to the noise."

How do you know? They were too lazy to get off their arses to say so. When it was being stalled by all and sundry they could have voted for one of the political parties in the 2019 GE that pledged to scrap it instead………..even more of them sat on their arses including all those students home from uni who everyone was banking on because they weren’t old enough to vote the first time round. Oh yeah, a lot of the wrinkles that voted them in were supposed to have died off too. What happened - only the biggest Tory majority for bloody years, that’s what happened!

Indeed, that is what happened because nearly 6 in 10 of those who voted said they didnt want the Tories to win.

And yet they did….Do you think they lied about how they actually voted?

No - I know that according to the official figures nearly 6 in 10 of those who voted said they didnt want the Tories to win.
