It was the FAN. Get over it and move on.
The fan bearings are worn and it's starting to flutter. WD40 can't cure worn bearings, you need a replacement.
And, prey, how exactly would you measure that?...Now if it were me doing the testing the first thing I would do is measure the fan speed....
