Editing of Books: PC Gone Mad?

The Brothers Grimm toned down the original stories themselves.

For example in the earliest version of sleeping beauty the king that found her asleep raped her.

So, PC updates of fairy tales is at least 200 years old.
They've continued to be toned down as well. I read them to my kids, and details had been changed since I was a kid in the 70s. And I certainly wasn't exposed to toes been chopped off in Cinderalla. etc. More the pity.

And yet...modern films and TV programmes are far more graphic and explicit in showing violence; rape and murder, even to under-age audiences, than they used to be.

In the name of 'progress' children can keep up with what's new in the pornographic world.

Agree that's not healthy. Easy access to porno for kids isn't a good idea. Yet not much gets done to stop it. Mind you if you draw a a sketch of certain peoples pretend gods BFF it's shut down in a heartbeat. Priorities have got messed up.

So, has PC gone mad or are the youth of today being exposed to horrific content that ruins their growing minds. I can't remember what the reactionary position is in this thread.

Slightly related, I had a go in an Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio motor.. (Something to try if you think your Audi is a nice drive).

Then I saw this:
Black by Alfa Romeo Perfumes is a fragrance for men. This is a new fragrance. Black was launched in 2021. The nose behind this fragrance is Cristiano Canali. Top notes are elemi and Grapefruit; middle notes are Nutmeg and Black Rose; base notes are Alcantara accord and dark woodsy notes.

“Rare and extreme, the 33 Stradale is one of the most desirable cars ever. I kept this iconic Italian automobile as inspirational. Fast and charismatic, this car is limited to real aficionados, often young collectors, who are not afraid to jump in this racing car. To represent the fizzy air caressing the metal I used an Italian Lemon combined with Grapefruit and Elemi adding spackles. The black rose recreates the confidence of the pilot with seductive masculine florality, nutmeg gives a warm spicy recklessness; all the dark woods aim to mimic the tight connection within the vehicle and the road with oud magnifying the exclusive feeling, the alcantara accord is the final touch to gain a timeless elegance of this refined fragrance for a man that never looks back”.

Perfumer: Cristiano Canali

Obviously y'all know what oud is? No not a Dr Who monster or a lute thing, it's mouldy agar wood.

So if you're cheap and only have an Audi, you can make it stink of Black. For less than a pony.
Italians for you, they say it how it is and don't give a ****, good on them.

I heard on R4 of a report in Australia that 18 y olds are turning up at doctors with sexual disfunction because they're not getting the stimulaton they expected from living humans, having had saturation level porn exposure to every level of activity, including those off limits with average people.

Well, we need to reduce the population.

Although now sold on, the holders of the Dahl copyright were his family.
They started the editing of his work, the new copyright holders are simply carrying on the work.
Anybody read the original Pinocchio ? It’s like a bloody horror film.

Certain words (such as "fat") are being expunged from Roald Dahl's books and replaced with 1984-style Newspeak.

From "1984":

‘Relative to our own, the Newspeak vocabulary was tiny, and new ways of reducing it were constantly being devised. Newspeak, indeed, differed from almost all other languages in that its vocabulary grew smaller instead of larger every year. Each reduction was a gain, since the smaller the area of choice, the smaller the temptation to take thought. Ultimately it was hoped to make articulate speech issue from the larynx without involving the higher brain centres at all.’

Do you feel that you can't express your self and your extreme views ?

Alfa was producing very good cars up to a couple of decades ago.
Then they slipped into their sister company habits (Fiat) of doing things on the cheap that don't last.
I had an Alfa 33 (not the Stradale, the one for the masses) in the 90s and I loved it.
Then I was given a 156 20 years ago to keep for a few months and the decline had already began.
To start with, the pedals were not in line with the steering wheel, so you had to sit on an angle.
WTF!
